Chapter Eight: The Cosmic History of Cosmo Canyon

Cosmo Canyon[/b][/center]
A car slowed to a stop outside Cosmo Canyon. It was the same amazing place as it was when Cloud first visited. Amazing red skies, large observatory at the top, and countless places to learn about the Planet, Cosmo Canyon was truly a remarkable place. Out of the car walked an injured Nate, who was accompanied by Hitori. The two managed to get up the large staircase and to the entrance, where a guard stood erect. “Sorry, we aren’t allowing anyone in.” Nate’s eyes flared with fury. “Listen here, and listen well. We’ve gone to another planet and back, I got shot, and we just drove from Rocket Town to here. We’ve got to see what the hell this sword is!” Nate held out the Ultima Sword. The guard jumped back, shocked. “That’s… that’s… come in…” The guard ran up several flights of stairs, and disappeared within the Canyon. Up at the top, a red figure looked down at the newcomers.
Nate and Hitori walked along, unsure. They found their way here, but what now? The guard came back and ran up to them, panting. “Okay… follow… me…” The guard led the two up to the Observatory. The guard opened the door. “Don’t cause any trouble. He didn’t expect someone of such importance to arrive so soon.” Curious, the two walked in. They were greeted by a firey red wolf. The two looked a bit nervous. It looked dangerous. “Don’t be alarmed.” Nate and Hitori jumped. Hitori was the first to speak. “That thing can talk?!” The crocotta made a face. “I have a name. I am Nanaki.”
Nanaki gave Nate and Hitori a grand tour of the Observatory, save for one room. Nate and Hitori both looked at it as they passed it, wondering what is inside. Nanaki turned back to see them looking at the room. He smirks slightly. “You two sure have a thing for being curious.” Nate and Hitori both scratch their heads. “Yeah,” Nate said, “That’s what got us in this mess in the first place.” Nanaki turned toward the door. “Yes, I figured that. There can be only one reason why the Ultima Sword has found its way here. Follow me.” Nanaki opens the door to the unvisited room, and is followed in by Nate and Hitori.
They find themselves in a somewhat small room, with several machines. Nanaki walks toward one of them, and pressed a button. “Step on the circular center, please.” The two do as they are told, and Nanaki presses a few more buttons, and steps on as well. The lights turn off, and the platform rises. What they see is the most magnificent thing they’ve set their eyes on. It was a scale replica of the solar system.
Nanaki walked them to the center, where they spotted their planet, and walked over. Nanaki froze the revolution cycle, and the planet stopped moving. “The Ultima Sword is one of three artifacts of several hundred years ago…” A triangle appears on the planet, each corner in different spots. One corner was in Kalm, one in Rocket Town, and one in the Temple of the Ancients. “These are where the three artifacts were hidden. The Ultima Sword was given to those in Rocket Town, the Masamune Blade was given to those in Kalm, and the Black Materia found its way back to its home, the Temple of the Ancients.” Nate and Hitori looked on as Nanaki explained. Hitori was the first to speak. “What’s so important about these artifacts? I mean, they’re just two swords and a rock.” Nanaki looked like his heart exploded. “WHAT IS SO IMPORTANT?! ARE YOU TWO IDIOTS?!” Nanaki sighs. “Sorry… These artifacts were in the events that took place several hundreds of years ago.” Nate and Hitori looked at each other, and then they both said, “What events?” Nanaki was shocked. “You mean you don’t know?!” Nate and Hitori shook their heads. “Not a book in existence says anything about some big event that long ago.” Nanaki sighed, and looked at the two.
“Several hundreds of years ago, there was a man named Cloud. He was a test subject for an evil scientist named Hojo, who injected him with cells from Jenova, the calamity from the sky. He did the procedure to all of those in SOLDIER, which was Shinra’s prized army. Shinra was an organization that produced power by taking the Lifeforce out of the planet. The leader of SOLDIER, named Sephiroth, was also injected. Sephiroth went insane during an event that occurred in Nibelheim, and took Jenova from her cell in the Nibelheim Reactor, found in Mount Nibel. Sephiroth obtained the Black Materia, and with it, summoned Meteor, the destructive force that nearly destroyed our planet. Cloud and his friends went to the Northern Crater after Sephiroth, and defeated him there. Cloud wielded the Ultima Sword, Sephiroth wielded the Masamune Blade. In the end, Cloud came out victorious, with his friends.”
Nate and Hitori stood there, shocked. “If this is so important,” Nate said, “Why the hell don’t we know about it?” Nanaki sighed. “The people who witnessed the event probably had their memories wiped, in order for peace to continue in the lands. They didn’t want anyone to know, in case someone might try to do the same thing.” Nate and Hitori were still in disbelief. Someone nearly destroyed the Planet, and nobody knew. Things were getting intense. “If the three artifacts are brought to a hidden Temple, the location of Sephiroth’s remnants will be revealed. If that information falls in the wrong hands, then Meteor may once again be summoned…” Nate and Hitori looked at each other. Things have gotten worse. This isn’t a game any longer. The entire planet is at stake. Nate looked at Nanaki. “But how do you know all this.” Nanaki turned off the machine, and the three headed back down. Nanaki looked back at Nate, and sighed. “I know this because I was one of Cloud’s friends. I helped him defeat Sephiroth.”
