Chapter 1: The Legend of the Stolen Masamune
[/i][/u][/center]Story One
Kalm
“There’s nobody left… I’m all alone… I’ve failed. The planet is doomed.” Kael sat their, tattered and bruised, looking at the sword in his hand. It was too much. He hoped to make a difference; to help the world any way he could. However, he bit off more than he could chew.
One Year Ago
It was just another day. People going to work, cars outside, the sky was blue, and the air was clean. Kalm seemed to be the perfect place. Kael stepped out of his house in the suburbs, and looked at the sky. “Hmm… I wonder what it’s like elsewhere…” Kael had always wanted to go on an adventure, like in the stories. However, this was impossible, as weapons were outlawed, and the most dangerous thing you could carry was an over sharpened butter knife. Things were just typical. Nothing special, nothing extraordinary.
“Live from Cosmic Industries, President Locke!” A crowed cheered on the television. It seemed President Locke was unveiling his new power source. Kael had been wondering all week what it could be, so he ran into the living room and stared at the television.
“Ladies and Gentlemen,” Locke said with a grin that could put an eye out. “My new power source will put Kalm in the history books! Well, again, anyway.” The crowed laughed as if on cue. The joke wasn’t really funny. “I present…” Locke held up a control, with his finger resting on a button. “…The Cosmic Reactor.” Click. Locke’s finger pressed down, enabling the mechanism that covered the large building. A curtain flew off, and up stood a building much like a cylinder, with the Cosmic Industries logo on it. Everyone applauded and cheered with enthusiasm.
“This Reactor takes spare, unneeded energy from the sun, and turns it into the electricity that powers your home. Environmentally safe, physically sound, this Reactor will not cease to function for 10,000 years!” A loud uproar overtook the crowd, and everyone cheered loudly. It really seemed like a big deal, but Kael wasn’t impressed. He turned off the television and walked away.
“Kael? Where are you going?” A face peeked from behind a wall. “Out, mom. Is that alright with you?” Kael looked back nonchalantly at his mother. “Oh, fine. Go on. Just be careful.” Kael was already out of sight before his mother could finish. She just sighed and smiled. “Kids these days. Always wanting to do something interesting.”<br>
Kael was already about a mile away from his house, as he was always faster than his friends. He never wondered why, but simply accepted it. He stopped running, and walked the rest of his way, saying a quick hello to a couple of people. It didn’t matter if he knew them, as everyone in the town was friendly to each other. Kael walked into the Library Cloister, looking for some mischief to manage. He looked around, noticing the librarians were busy helping people finding books. He then spotted something he had never noticed before. A door was in the far corner with a couple of security cameras pointing to it.
“Well, that looks fun.” Kael sneaks under the view of the first camera and unplugs it. He does the same with the other one, and walks up to the door. With a grin, he carefully turned the knob and went in.
He found himself in a dark room. It seemed to be a hallway leading to somewhere large, considering the temperature of the area. He carefully walked down the hallway, making sure not to hit anything by feeling around with his foot. He managed to find a light switch, and he turned it on. Flash! The lights seemed to have never been turned on before. What stood before him were several artifacts that dated back several thousand years. There was a tome of pictures and history, a model of a city almost as amazing as Kalm, a statue of a man, and a sword. He first looked at the statue. The man had spiky hair, and a very large sword. The label on the statue said “Cloud”, so Kael figured that Cloud here must have been important. He then set his eyes on the model. The city was amazing, with eight reactors around the city. They looked strikingly similar to the Cosmic Reactors that were recently unveiled. The label under the model read “Midgar.” The name seemed a little familiar, but didn’t ring a bell. He then opened the tome. Each page had a picture, followed by a caption. The first one was a picture of the city Midgar.
Midgar was a prosperous city which ran with the aid of Mako Reactors, which were designed by Shinra Corporation. These Mako Reactors were known by few to be taking the Lifeforce out of the planet and using it as power. This Mako, or Lifeforce, could be compressed to form Materia, special rocks that had magical properties. Midgar was run by President Shinra until his mysterious murder that was never solved. His son, Rufus, became the president. However, his reign did not last long, as four massive creatures known as WEAPONs ravaged the planet, attempting to destroy the cities. The first of them destroyed the Shinra Corporation Building, along with any trace of Rufus.
Kael knew already that this was forbidden, but he couldn’t help himself. He looked at the other page, which had a picture of a black cloaked man.
Sephiroth was the strongest of Shinra’s prized army, known as SOLDIER. With his Masamune Blade, none posed a threat to him. He supposedly passed away in Nibelheim, but no trace of him was found. Rumor has it that he was behind the destruction of Midgar.
Kael was intrigued by the suspense. Who exactly was Sephiroth? How did he destroy Midgar? Was he involved with the death of President Shinra? The next page had a picture of a flaming rock.
Meteor was created by unknown methods. It loomed over the planet for several days before starting its descent. Rumor has it that Sephiroth caused this massive rock to fall to the planet, but this has yet to be proven true. Meteor crashed into Midgar, destroying everything.
So Midgar was destroyed by Meteor, a rock made by Sephiroth? How did he make it? Wasn’t there anyone who tried to stop him? The last legible page had a picture of the same man as the statue.
Cloud Strife. A former member of Shinra’s lesser known forces, Cloud joined a group known as AVALANCHE, which was known for bombing Mako Reactors. After the death of President Shinra, AVALANCHE, led by Cloud, set off to search for Sephiroth. Their journeys brought them around the world, and they are most known for destroying the WEAPONs.
He knew it. Someone had to try to stop Sephiroth. If not, something worse could have happened. For all he knew, the WEAPONs could have still existed had it not been for Cloud and AVALANCHE. Kael closed the tome and looked at the inscription under the immensely long sword.
Masamune: The sword of Sephiroth. This unusual sword could only be wielded by Sephiroth, as its length was too much for others to handle.
Kael was amazed at the time put into creating the amazing sword. He picked it up with both of his hands, and he could feel it pulsate in his grip. Then he heard the door behind him open, so he ran into the shadows, with the Masamune Blade still in his hands. It must be a librarian.
No… it isn’t… those steps are too heavy to be of a librarian.
What emerged from the shadows scared and amazed Kael. The man looked almost exactly like Sephiroth, aside from a couple of details. His hair was black, and his eyes were blue. Sephiroth wasn’t as tall, or have as much muscle.
“Where is that thing.” He said. He must be looking for the Masamune Blade. Kael tried to sneak away from the large lookalike, but the man heard him. Kael gasped as the man ran after him. Even Kael was no match for this man’s godlike speed. Before he knew it, he had a large hand resting on his shoulder. Kael did a leg sweep, and managed to hit the man’s shin. He broke free from the man’s grasp, and drew the Masamune Blade. It didn’t seem too hard to wield.
“Well, that is interesting. It is said only The Great Sephiroth could wield that blade…” The man stepped closer. “Give me the blade, boy.” Kael shook, but refused.
“No? Very well, boy.” The man drew a large sword that had a gun attached to it, and fired at Kael, who quickly ran behind the statue of Cloud. He then saw a secret panel in the statue, and opened it. It was just a rock. A green, glowing rock. Oh well. Kael grabbed the rock and tried to shine it at the man. Out of nowhere, a fireball hit the man and knocked him down.
“Whoa…” Kael stood there amazed. Did the rock do that? Kael snapped out of it, and ran from the room, and out of the Library, Masamune and rock in hand. He ran far from anywhere he has been, and found his way to the gate. It was too hard to break, and didn’t have a place to climb. Kael tried to use the rock, and it threw a fireball once again. However, this time Kael felt exhausted. He stumbled out of Kalm and left his memories behind. His adventure has started.
